Mud Springs Gospel Band

Mud Springs Gospel Band

Mud Springs is a beautiful area located near Madras, Oregon, the hometown of the Mud Springs Gospel Band. The band was formed in 1985, and each of the band members comes from different backgrounds both musically and spiritually. They are joined by their love for acoustic instruments, bluegrass music, tight 3 or 4 part vocal harmonies, and fellowship.

Most important of all, "We share in a strong love for our Lord Jesus Christ. Our declared purpose is to spread God's love and His message of salvation through our music. Our hope is that our music will encourage you to experience this love and salvation for yourself."

Musicians include:

MSGB Don Mobley Don Mobley, stand-up bass, vocals. Don is the operator of the Madras Airport. A former Navy pilot, Don is the FAA Pilot Examiner for Central Oregon, a flight instructor, and corporate pilot for Norton Cattle Co. and Les Schwab Tires. Don sings most of the high harmonies. He is an accomplished guitar player, having spent several years playing country music in "smoke-filled bars."
MSGB Darrell Glaspie Darrell Glaspie, mandolin, vocals. Darrell is a department manager at Safeway in Madras. He has been involved in gospel music for many years as a songwriter and performer. He started his singing career as lead singer for a rock and roll band. Darrell experienced a mandolin player's nightmare when he jumped from a scaffold in the Safeway warehouse, caught his wedding ring on the scaffold, and severed his finger. Through the wonders of microsurgery, Darrell will someday have 100% use of that finger. In the meantime, he has developed a unique three-finger style.
MSGB Jerry Burk Jerry Burk, dobro, mandolin, guitar, vocals. Jerry, the newest member of the band, is a farmer near Culver and is also a retired heavy equipment operator. Jerry has also written several songs which he performs with the band. He is used to being a solo performer, so he enjoys the accompaniment. Primarily a mandolin and guitar player, Jerry started playing the dobro after joining the Mud Springs Gospel Band.
MSGB George Klos

George Klos, 5 string banjo, guitar, harmonica, vocals. George is the music teacher at Madras Elementary. An accomplished musician, songwriter and performer, George keeps the band "on track" with his knowledge of music theory and bluegrass history. He is also a piano teacher, piano tuner, and keyboard player for The Wall Street Dixieland Jazz Band.
MSGB Mark Speer

Mark Speer, guitar, vocals. Mark is so new to the group that his photo was late coming. I had to snap one at a wonderful concert they provided for our church. Mark is a firefighter in the Madras area and brings not only enthusiasm, but also original songs and strong musical support to the group. His unashamed love of the Lord and his family is an inspiration to other young people and really helps keep Mud Springs appealing to all ages.
